Influence of Age, Body Weight and Body Condition on Plasma Leptin Concentrations in Beef Cattle

چکیده
Reproductive competence is one of the most important components in the overall management of a cow-calf operation. The ability to maintain a 365-day calving interval in a high percentage of the females influences the profitability of all breeding operations. In most cases, low reproductive efficiency can be directly linked to the nutritional status of the animal(s). Research has shown that poor nutrition results in longer intervals from calving to first estrus and subsequently compromises the desired yearly calving interval in beef cattle.

The Effect of Maternal High-Fat Feeding on Energy Homeostasis in Stressed Adult Male Rat Offspring
Introduction: In the present study the effect of chronic maternal high-fat diet consumption on energy homeostasis and glucose metabolism in response to chronic stress was investigated in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Female rats were divided into two groups of normal and high fat diets. Each group received their diet from 3 weeks before pregnancy until the end of lactation. At 8 weeks...

In dairy cattle, the increase in milk yield has been accompanied by a more negative energy balance during early lactation and a decrease in fertility. The 167 amino acid protein product of the ob gene was named leptin (derived from the Greek term ‘leptos’ meaning thin). The leptin hormone, as a 16-kDa protein is synthesized mainly by adipose tissue and is involved in regulation of food intake, ...

متن کاملEffect of islamic fasting on glucose, lipid profiles and Body Mass Index, adiponectin and leptin in obese individuals
Introduction: Fasting is an Islamic practice, which causes various metabolic changes in fasting individuals. Numerous studies have examined different aspects of fasting, but its effect on individuals with different characteristics such as obesity has remained unknown. The impact of fasting on adipose tissue hormones such as leptin and adiponectin is still controversial. In this study, we aimed ...

Background: Introduction of leptin, a product of the obese gene, recently has led to numerous experiments to better understand body weight and composition function. Based on these findings, leptin is proposed to be an important factor in energy balance and metabolism to influence body weight. In addition, investigators have reported contradictory findings about the influence of physical ex...
